Tissa Jinasena Group

Tissa Jinasena Foundation

TJF is the personal charity management agency of Dr Tissa Jinasena. TJF objective is to save lives, alleviate suffering, & maintain human dignity. It works towards creating societies where disadvantaged members are empowered to become self-reliant & thereby contribute towards the creation of a better world.

Solar Lamp Distribution:

TJF distribute solar lights especially designed for school children of remote villages with no electricity. The traditional kerosene lamp is considered hazardous & has caused numerous accidents causing serious damage to the lives of rural children.

 Street children’s home – Hulftsdorp:

TJF focus on street children with a sincere concern as they do not receive regular meals or formal education. They are exploited by the underworld & are often dragged into drug peddling & other anti social activities.

Assistance to the needy people – Moratuwa:

The urban poor struggle to make a living, living mostly in illegal shanties or on the pavement. This initiative gives a monthly payment to more than 100 people, the poorest of poor whilst providing books and other requisites for the children & clothing for the families.

 Children's Home - Sri Jayewardenepura

This was started to look after war orphans now is a safe home for nearly 100 children sent by the legal system. The court takes custody of children when it decides that the parents cannot effectively look after these children and also children who have been subject to sexual harassment.

School childrens health (Gurukumbura Vidyalaya):

This project provides milk in the morning to school School childrens health (Gurukumbura Vidyalaya): This project provides milk in the morning to school children of the indigenous people living in Dambana which is a reserve for this traditional hunting community. They are now cut away from their traditional hunting grounds and now forced to live a life of poverty. The children are malnourished and the glass of milk is the main motive to get them to come to school.

Assistance to Galnewa Wedamadura:

Is a free hospital that treats over 200 residential patients and over 1000 out patients monthly. Payment is purely voluntary and depends on the economic status of the patient. The shortage of pure water was a big constraint, we constructed a tube well and complete water supply system for this hospital.

Assistance to Deaf and Blind School at Anuradhapura

Provide support to the visually and aurally handicapped children from the rural communities.

Spiritual development is essential for a well-balanced society; we provide training facilities as well as infrastructure facilities for religious organizations so that they can better serve society

MANIFESTATION OF UNIVERSALITY

To teach people that we have evolved with nature, we are what our ancestors ate and experienced, this is in our DNA and our guts, by now eating completely different kinds of food including highly processed food with many synthetic additives, GMO food and agrochemical residues we are introducing to our systems many chemical and biological compounds that it cannot digest or absorb, throwing the biome into unbalance, with it chronic disease such as Cancer, Alzheimers Disease, Diabetes, Hypertension, Depression. By eating natural food we reestablish equilibrium within our systems and with it good health, vitality and long life.

To teach people that many of the modern drugs including antibiotics, steroids and hormone treatments destroys our biome and with it our long term health, they only mask the symptoms. That they should only be used as a last resort, that natural cures are much more effective long term. By learning to balance our biome we learn to eradicate many of the diseases that now reaching epidemic proportions.

To bring to the notice of people the modern studies and findings highlighting the efficacy of traditional ways of living including Yoga, Meditation, group social activities in creating happy lives. To walk in nature, to admire a sunset, to help other beings, to demonstrate loving kindness stimulates our hormones giving us the feeling of well being naturally without resorting to artificial stimuli such as alcohol, drugs, sugar which shut down the hormone receptors causing insensitive to these stimuli and the need to take larger and larger intakes and eventually to addiction.

To convince people that the energy they produce and give others comes back to them, that is the nature of the Universe, Thoughts are the forerunner of all actions, kind, considerate, loving thoughts gives one a life full of these attributes. Our minds create good health and wellbeing, on the positive side and disease and unhappiness on the negative side.

That by triggering the fight or flee response frequently in our lives we are releasing hormones such as Cortisol that serve a vital function in a life threatening situation but are harmful in everyday life as the immune system and other critical life support systems get switched off. We teach people to lead peaceful relaxed lives by teaching them to understand what is triggering them and how to overcome these triggers.

MOU Vision

Raise the Consciousness Level of people so that we create a happy, safe and sustainable World. To transform their unrelenting drive to satisfy the senses and accumulate worldly goods, that is causing so much suffering, into one of creating a just and happy world.

MOU Mission

Mankind developed in nature, was weaned in nature and is an intrinsic part of nature. Modern man is now trying to move away from nature, to exploit it and destroy it. This has brought about so much suffering and hardship as we move away from the the concept of one, both physically and psychologically. Plant life is the foundation of all life on earth, we need to reestablish our intimate connection with nature and plant life or we risk destruction through diseases and pestilence.
MOU Is dedicated to creating within people the love for nature and teaching them how to use the boundless gifts of nature to live a happy and sustainable life. The appreciation of the oneness of all phenomena in the Universe and the joy of living without discrimination and separation.

Developing and maintaining 25 Acres of Herbarium Forest to conserve indigenous medicinal plants, herbal biodiversity and provided the green houses with misting system & drip irrigation to control heat, moisture and shade to protect and perfect growth for nursery herb plants. This land is currently occupied by Pine trees. The trimming and removal of unwanted Pine trees, followed by transplanting of herbal plants is expected to achieve final outcome of 600 herbal plants per acre mimicking rainforest species densities. Now more than 100 herb plants varieties are successfully established in field. Approximately at the rate of one acre per month of Pine forest is expected to be converted to herbarium forest.
Rare Plant Collecting
MOU members travel all around the country to source rare, endanger and indigenous plants species for preservation in the herbarium forest reserve.

Medicinal Plants Exhibition Unit

Along with the herbarium forest reserve, exhibition plots of various rare and useful medicinal plants are established for visitors to gain valuable awareness and knowledge. These plants have been organized and established to showcase the plant along with its name, use, and the specific ailments that it caters for.

Images:

Organic & Natural Farm

Our agricultural practice is natural farming which means using Organic fertilizer and maintains zero hazards to air, soil, water and bio diversity. Donate this herbal forest back to the society is one of our long term objective. We provide knowledge and awareness to our visitors on the use of Indigenous microorganism solutions (Jeewa Moortha), Fish tonic, Fruit tonic, Universal Energy, Traditional Agricultural Methods ( Kem krama ).

Images:

SRI Method Paddy Cultivation

Conventional practices including flooding of paddy fields result in poor yield and resource efficiency. So SRI method is tested in field to identify and quantify benefits of modern methods.

Images:

Seed Conservation

Biodiversity has dwindled since the introduction of GMO and mono-cropping practices of agricultural revolution. Traditional seed varieties are sourced and conserved using conventional and traditional seed conservation methods.

Butterfly Garden

Butterflies and moths are indicators of a healthy environment and healthy ecosystems. They indicate a wide range of other invertebrates, which comprise over two-thirds of all species. These collectively provide a wide range of environmental benefits, including pollination and natural pest control. We intend to showcase a butterfly garden within the premises of the Mattegoda Osu Uyana, as an integrated component of the herbariums’ ecosystem.

Bee Keeping

Bees benefit humans by providing Agricultural Services. The agricultural benefits of bees has been well documented; their pollination services to our agricultural crops are responsible for one out of every three bites of food we eat. Bees use pollen for food, which is converted into energy, allowing the bee to fly for extended periods in order to gather and distribute the pollen. Due to the bee's attentions, crops thrive and produce fruit, vegetables, flowers, nuts, seeds, beans, and much more. We intend to facilitate a suitable environment for bees to flourish at Mattegoda Osu Uyana, such that the herbarium ecosystem can flourish as a collective.

Mushroom Showcase

According to this project cultivate and showcase diversity of mushrooms available. Propagate and promote exotic use-case mushrooms available worldwide, i.e. Lion Mane mushroom.

Research & Development

The modern world is fast paced and seeking convenience. Traditional methods, lifestyle, and its practices are very much slow paced and moderate. The traditional knowledge and methods are very much noninvasive and treat aliments and illness without much of side effects. We envision to promote traditional methods with a modern twist, by conducting research on traditional methods to suite and fit the modern day lifestyle.

Our Research & Development section activities divide on two sections;

• Gathering current literature on:

– Antioxidants
– Supplements
– Remedies

• Developing techniques for:

– Extraction and delivery mechanisms of above
– Water Filtration Systems
– Seed Conservation

Water Filtration Systems

Since 2016 we have been working with a doctor in the NCP region to help and assist his treatments for CKDu. This doctor cures CKDu within 6 to 12 weeks. However after being discharged, the patients tend to retain back to the doctor due to various reasons. The key causes identified by the doctor is the use of contaminated water and food. To alleviate the contaminated water consumption by treated patients; Tissa Jinasena Group wishes to provide simple gravity based household water filtration systems.

These water filters will be handed over to the patients leaving the doctors premises along with potted plants and seeds, along with organic fertilizer, handbook on natural farming techniques, and the assistance of a full-time agricultural specialist mobilized in the NCP region.

Herb gardens and indigenous medicinal plants conservation

Over reliance on prescription drugs and supplements is having a disastrous effect on the health of people, the time tested traditional cures and herbal remedies are now making a comeback. The problem faced by people is the difficulty in obtaining these herbs and knowledge about how to use them. We grow herbs in two herbal gardens and freely distribute herbs to patients. School children, practitioners & students of traditional medicine engage in field visits to familiarize themselves with the rare plants found in these gardens. We also publish and distribute books that describe medicinal herbs and their use in curing many common diseases. Vedawatte Company operates a fifty acre estate in Belihuloya, Sri Lanka promoting the growth of Herbal forests. The long term objective of the organization is to donate this Herbal forest back to the society with a mechanism that schools and universities in the area will protect and manage the Herbal forests which are disappearing fast in the current context

We feel it is essential that people get used to more sustainable lifestyles and greater appreciation of nature. We carry out training that creates more awareness about these issues. Our back to nature campsite at Belihuloya gives youth an opportunity to live in close proximity to nature. Thereby developing a true love and appreciation of nature. Modern man subjected to ever increasing stress levels, we teach the ancient arts of Meditation and Yoga at our Bolgoda Center to help them to develop a healthier lifestyle.

School Building Opening - Diganegama

Diganegama School Development Project

Education facilities at the rural level is not sufficiently good in everywhere as the attention and assistance of the authorities do not focus in the same way. Inequalities of the distribution of human & physical resources are widely prevailing mostly in many provinces except a few. Some of the schools have been identified to shut down whereas some of them have already been closed under various reasons. However, the students from the rural set up would suffer under this situation since their economical background is poor to afford money for getting tuition or distant schools. The only possible

effort is to develop the school facilities which would be beneficial to the entire children in the village.

Diganegama School has also been identified as school of less facilities but with more human capabilities to improve the life of village children. A dedicated team of teachers and the principal with more commitment & passion would take the lead towards a better education for the village children.

In this School Developing Project;

  • Developed NEW SCHOOL BUILDING  for Diganegama  Vidyalaya
  • Developed  BUDDHA SHRINE for Diganegama  Vidyalaya
  • Donated  BOOKS for School Library
